We read it in the Odyssey, in the Homeric epic, which is dated about three thousand years ago. In this emblematic work that explores human adventure, the hero’s dog plays its own role. While the brave and cunning Odysseus is fighting for his return to the longed for Ithaca after the end of the Trojan War by mastering all challenges, monsters and temptations, Argos waits patiently for his master. And he recognizes him immediately after – symbolically – twenty years of his absence. What does time mean, all the battles that have changed his appearance, the long wait? Argos welcomes him and Odysseus makes sure that whatever he left behind in his homeland, Ithaca, which was and is his life, is still there and waiting for him unconditionally.

Exactly this unconditional love, which the dog gives to its owner quite freely, the man enjoys and tries to return it.

For us, this is what Argos stands for: as a cross-language and cross-cultural symbol for this unique relationship between humans and dogs.
